MADE IN BRITAIN
MADE IN BRITAIN
INDUSTRY LED BRIEF
Within my second year of my Fashion Design degree we were challenged by AllSaints to design a A/W 2022 Menswear collection for our Industry Project. Over months of design development and research into the brands identity and market level, we created the collection "Made In Britain" alongside with an in-depth sustainability, market and trend report that guided our design process throughout. We were inspired by AllSaints grungy store layouts and how they named one of their collections after the Nirvana song "Come As You Ae". Ultimately this enticed us to research further into bands styles throughout the eras and eventually the mods and rockers aesthetic.
Whilst designing the collection we wanted to account for a post pandemic world, returning to socialisation. Our approach to sustainability is to layer timeless pieces to encourage the consumer to turn their backs on fleeting trends and invest in high quality pieces that reflect the AllSaints attitude.
The garment I chose to include within the collection was inspired by The Beatles style throughout the 60's-80's. In particular the collarless jackets they frequently showcased. I designed an oversized, lightweight denim jacket with a tab collar detailing and vintage military buttons to tie in the "Made In Britain" concept. The trending tab collar and lightweight denim material creates a perfect casual jacket for the 25-55 year old consumer, exiting lockdown restrictions and seeking for a quintessentially British style yet comforting aesthetic.
The hard work paid off and myself and team won first place in this Industry brief which propelled us all as students into our final year with confidence and motivation to excel.
